At CoCo CrossFit, we help you attain elite fitness through a constant upgrade of your abilities. We use functional movements (pushing, pulling, squatting, running, jumping) in constantly varied combinations at high intensity. We incorporate elements from our years of team sports, the various CrossFit disciplines (old school, main-site, endurance training, football), our unlimited access to a rock climbing facility, our perspective from participating and coaching in competitive athletics and our decade of experience with CrossFit to help our members leverage their strengths and uncover untapped potential. Because our workouts are constantly varied, you won't get bored doing the same routines day after day.  


CrossFit is fitness for everyone.  Our athletes include people recovering from injuries, folks who’ve never worked out before, as well as recreational and Division-1 athletes, all working out together and learning from each other. I was Born and raised within the 46.7 square mile grid of San Francisco. I competitively faught in the sport of Muay Thai from the age of 11 years old right up until I started CrossFit in 2012. I took an interest in CrossFit before I started my Fire Academy. I hadn't lifted a barbell in my life. I wanted to implement strength into my regimen. I got hooked and haven't looked back since. 

Out on the black mats, under the extreme weather conditions, you will find me encouraging our fellow athletes. I feel that CrossFit not only develops strength and conditioning, but it builds character, confidence, and mental fortitude. Better yourself. Do hard things.

Also, I like ice cream; Rocky Road ice cream.

Brynn Brothers CF-L1

Owner/Trainer/Designer

Doron convinced me to try CrossFit in 2013 and I haven't stopped since. He had tried to get me to a class for months, but I was far too intimidated and decided my daily 3 mile run was where my fitness life existed. Now I can't imagine going back. CrossFit has encouraged me to push myself in more ways than endurance running. Watching my progress through strength training and gymnastic movements keeps me coming back for more. I love CrossFit so much I decided about a year later get my L1 certification and have loved helping others achieve their fitness goals.

When I'm not at the gym I'm outside adventuring and camping whether it's at the beach or in the mountains. When I'm forced to be inside I'm doing all sorts of graphic design projects.

Doron Serban, CF-L1

Founder/Trainer


I founded CoCo CrossFit in 2012 with my twin brother, Shaul,  after 11 years of CrossFitting. I did it on my own for 7 years, then at CrossFit East Bay for the past 4 years, including 3 years as an instructor.  I grew up in Israel, Europe and the US, competing in tennis, baseball, soccer, and diving. While teaching Judo and Jujitsu in college (2001), I heard about CrossFit. In 2008, I stumbled onto CrossFit East Bay and joined that same day. After seven years of CrossFitting and  two more years of training and helping out at CFEB, I got certified. 

When I'm not at the gym, I am an architect and the BFA Emergent Design Coordinator for the School of Architecture at the Academy of Art University. Teaching is my life. I love to expose people to things they never thought were possible. My own struggles with my lack of flexibility taught me the importance of developing strengths from multiple angles. I had to be patient with my body and to accept progress at my own pace. I find that videotaping and photographing my workouts and techniques make a huge difference in helping me understand where I am being less efficient, and I  now use video regularly with everyone I train.  I obsess about making sure our athletes perform movements with an understanding of how their bodies function. You cannot optimize performance when you're stuck in 1st gear. Being (overly) analytical, I'm constantly on the lookout for new systems that will propel our members past a sticking point.

My CrossFit life began in 2009.  My first official workout was 100 reverse burpees for time and I got a big, fat Did Not Finish.  But I kept coming back until eventually my Box was my second home.  In my other life, I am a lawyer. 

I want my athletes to enjoy working out.  I make too many jokes and try to keep people at ease.  If you are shy, I will bring out your hidden confidence; whether you want me to or not.  I like programming WOD’s that scare you when you read them, frustrate you as you do them, and satisfy you after you finish.  My goal is to make you want to come to class so you can be strong and limber, the way nature intended you to be.

Alex Perec, CF-L1, USAW Sports Performance Coach

Trainer/Olympic Lifting Coach/Competition Team Director


Born and raised in Rochester, NY I played pretty much any sport my parents would let me, including gymnastics, snowboarding, soccer, basketball and cross training with weights.  I attended college at the State University of NY in Geneseo, NY where I graduated with a Bachelor in Computer Science and a Minor in Mathematics.  After college I did jujitsu and muay thai for several years as another way to tax my fitness.

After moving to California in 2012, I joined a CrossFit Box about a month before the CrossFit Open and was feeling fairly confident going into the first week of the Open. That feeling was short lived though as I suddenly discovered huge gaping holes in my fitness; why are my lungs about to explode?!  Never one to accept defeat though, I immediately decided that I was going to work my butt off till I could perform all the skills to my greatest potential. This quickly led to obtaining specialized coaching in the Olympic lifts and then hanging out after class to work on skills and share the things I was learning with others. Eventually this evolved into running classes and coaching regularly.

As a coach I always want to push people to their best. I love cheering with my athletes when they crush a PR (personal record) or just survive a particularly brutal workout. I love seeing how happy people get when they conquer their fears and accomplish something they didn’t even know they were capable of. Most of all I love hearing how CrossFit has enriched people’s lives outside of the gym. With gained confidence and enhanced mobility, it allows them to excel in activities that might not have been possible or as fun before.

Growing up in Alaska, I learned to love playing outdoors. Being active remained a constant throughout my life. Although playing volleyball in high school and college brought me great joy, I always found myself seeking out numerous activities when I was not participating in sports. Running, hiking, biking, kayaking, weight lifting, swimming, obstacle courses, climbing, fishing, scuba diving, and paddle boarding were my favorite ways to keep active in the great outdoors…until I found CrossFit.

In 2004, a friend of mine told me about this crazy stuff she was doing to workout: CrossFit. Since she was way bigger and stronger than me, I thought it wasn’t the right fit for me. Unfortunately, I waited a full FOUR SILLY YEARS thinking about trying and realizing that anyone could do CrossFit before a wonderful friend of mine put me through a few introduction sessions. I was hooked! Over the years, I have been able to be coached by some amazing people. I finally found a home at CoCo CrossFit. Through training at CoCo, I hope to bring the same joy, agony, intensity, humbling, and rewarding feeling, that I continue experience, to as many people as I can.

Evan Look, CF-L1

Trainer

 Born and raised on the mean streets of Concord, CA (sarcasm). I have always been an athletic person who loved being outside. As a child, you could always find me skating, riding bmx, or shredding the gnar on my scooter. My parents put me into Kung Fu and competitive kickboxing at a young age, where I developed my drive for competition. Throughout high school, I ran track (sprints), as well as two seasons of Cross Country, and a season of Lacrosse. After finishing high school, I decided to pick up mixed martial arts, where I trained in Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling, and some Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I competed in two Muay Thai competitions which were a blast, and spent some time as a Muay Thai/Boxing instructor.

When I am not involved in athletics, I am a third year Kinesiology Major at Cal State Hayward, studying exercise science, as well as nutrition. In addition, I am a part time EMT here in Contra Costa County working for American Medical Response.

I found CrossFit after taking a break from competitive martial arts to focus on my career. The biggest thing that drew me to CrossFit was the overall intensity and general ass-kickery of the workouts. It reminded me so much of fight team training (without the brain trauma), and I couldnt help but get addicted. Since then I have had the opportunity to compete in two competitions which were also a blast and havent looked back since. I am excited about being the newest coach to CoCo CrossFit and hope to share my passion for the sport which I fell in love with.

Hi. Born and raised in the Bay Area. I grew up playing many different sports.  I've always enjoyed trying new sports and finding new hobbies. It also helps with my ADD...(no seriously).
I came across climbing at Diablo Rock gym and fell in love with it, until I hurt my shoulder that set me back for a while. (I need to start climbing again) That is where I found crossfit; watching people throw around rubber plates outside looked so cool I had to try it. So I started crossfit back in 2012 and have been doing it since. It's a cool sport that challenges you mentally and physically to see how far you can push yourself. The results are phenomenal! I really have lots more to say so don't be shy and come say hi to me. Our gym can be chaotic but we welcome all levels!

Anthony Hartsock, CF-L1, CF-L2

Although I was introduced to CrossFit during my military career, I didn't really start until 2009.  Coming from a multisport and veteran background, I was always looking for something that would continually challenge me in a competitive team-like atmosphere. After starting, I knew I found what I was looking for in a comprehensive fitness program.  I began coaching in late 2009, becoming officially certified as an L1 in 2011.  Now after being in the CrossFit community for over 6 years, coaching for 5, and dabbling in the many aspects I recieved my L-2.  Next I'm eyeing to complete my L-3 within the next few months.  Outside of teaching classes, I take personal training clients and coach several olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, and NPC athletes.  Lastly, drawing from my 10+ civilian and military medical background, I coach adaptive athletes and physical therapy clients looking to achieve results not thought possible.

I'm a Christian man, a Husband, and a Father who aspires to inspire.

After my first CrossFit workout in 2012 which consisted of sprints and deadlifts, I could hardly walk in the following days to come. I realized that CrossFit filled the competitive void I've been missing in my life since resigning from Basketball and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Although, I've always been athletic throughout my life, I couldn't quite say I was strong. I was more obsessed about learning the fundamentals and consistently doing the ordinary extraordinarily well. Size and strength has always eluded me throughout my entire life, but as a 135lb athlete I take the absolute pride in every accomplishment I make in my fitness journey. Through the CrossFit regimen I can honestly say that I'm in the best shape of my life. The system works, the question is "Will YOU work?" 

In CoCo CrossFit you not only have the opportunity to improve your quality of life but have the ability to surround yourself with individuals who truly care about your well being, you buy into a community where your efforts are rewarded with friendship and a sense of family. As one of the greatest Leaders on this planet has stated, "Leaders need to remember that the point of leading is not to cross the finish line first. Dan Purington CF-L1

 I grew up in rural Massachusetts on a 10th generation dairy farm, spending the majority of my time outside (after chores of course) playing which-ever sport was in season. Throughout my childhood and on into my academic and adult career, high-level activity has given me a great sense of balance and accomplishment. I found CrossFit after my wife and I moved to the Bay Area 3 years ago and quickly realized the benefits of both the workout paradigm and awesome sense of community it builds. CrossFit couples my passion of high-level activity, mobility and human movement. I’m kind of an anatomy nerd. Outside of CrossFit I work in transplant medicine, enjoy backpacking, distance trail running and throwing big hunks of meat over an open flame.
